Area gets a "hop" on Easter festivities

The Easter Chicken, Bunny and Egg got in some dancing before Opelika Parks and Recreation kicked of the eighth annual evening egg hunt Thursday.

Thursday night third- through fifth-graders got a “hop” on the Easter festivities at Opelika’s “Flashlight Egg Hunt” at Moore Stadium. During the event, the Easter Chicken, Bunny and Egg got in some dancing before Opelika Parks and Recreation kicked of the eighth annual evening egg hunt Thursday. Then armed with flashlights and Easter baskets, children searched for treasure.

Opelika’s Easter festivities will continue Saturday with the city’s annual “Easter on the Square” event. Children's “Egg-tivities” for children ages second grade and younger begin at 10 a.m., with entertainment, food, as well as, arts and crafts, including making parade decorations, hats, bunny-ears, vests, ties or bonnets. Participants can also have their picture made with the Easter Bunny. At 10:45 a.m., The Ultimate Parade begins. The Super Spectacular Egg Hunt will begin at 11 a.m. For more

Also on Saturday, The Auburn Parks and Recreation Department and Wachovia Bank will host the 27th Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Kiesel Park at 11 a.m. The event also includes live musical entertainment, balloons and a chance to meet the Easter Bunny. The Kiwanis Club of Greater Auburn will be selling hotdogs and hamburgers. All proceeds raised will be given to needy families throughout the community. This event is for children 12 years and younger and is free to the public. The rain date for the Easter Egg Hunt is 2 p.m., Sunday. For more information, visit www.auburnalabama.org.

Callaway Gardens will host its Easter Eggstravaganza Egg Hunt from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. EDT Saturday around Robin Lake Beach. For the event, candy eggs along with some special-prized eggs will be hidden for “guests of every age, from 1 to 101.” The Easter Bunny will visit from noon to 5 p.m. for photos. Bring a basket, or purchase one on arrival. The Egg hunt is free with admission to Callaway
