Jarnisa A. Cobb of Opelika competed against other Boys & Girls Club members for the Alabama Youth of the Year title and won a $1,000 college scholarship from the Alabama Area Council of Boys & Girls Clubs. Cobb, 17, will also receive a $500 scholarship from the Jane C. Walker Scholarship Fund as the new Youth of the Year for Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Lee County.

The Opelika Chamber of Commerce recognizes the importance of developing future leaders. With that in mind, the chamber has implemented a Lee County Young Leaders program, similar to the Leadership Lee County program.

The annual meeting and spring social for OLLI at Auburn members and their guests will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the Lexington Hotel in Auburn. The annual meeting will feature the introduction of 2012-13 OLLI officers and new board members.

The Auburn City Council approved final steps for issuing $4 million in bonds to fund projects at Frank Brown Recreation Center and tax abatements for a parts supplier that will support SiO2 Medical Products when the biotech company’s plant opens in 2013.
