Lingerie, Internet dating not among federal necessities

»  Comments | Post a Comment

News coming out of Washington, D.C., Tuesday was nothing short of repulsive.

It was revealed that 41 percent of credit card purchases by U.S. government employees were not properly authorized during a 15-month period, according to an audit performed by the Government Accountability Office.

We’re squabbling in the House and Senate about money for defense, money for the deficit, money for this and that, and government workers have wasted an estimated $14 billion for their own uses.

They weren’t necessarily using credit cards for office stationary or supplies that would make their jobs working for this country better. It was discovered that some items purchased included designer clothes, lingerie and payments to Internet dating services.

Lingerie and Internet dating services?

We’re in the midst of a recession, but a few in Washington have the gall to use taxpayer money to purchase sexy sleepwear. This is despicable.

The report said, “Breakdowns in internal controls over the use of purchase cards leave the government highly vulnerable to fraud, waste and abuse.” America will never move forward if its own government abuses taxpayer money.

Those responsible have no place being employed by the United States. Basically, they stole from this country.

Such employees, regardless of how high they rank in the government, should be in the unemployment line and repay this nation for what they took or face criminal charges.

We’ve seen legislators abuse public systems in Alabama to suit their own financial well-being. We’ve seen these legislators catch heat, and some have even been indicted.

What happened in Washington is on a much larger scale and heads should roll immediately.
