Auburn police seek stabbing suspect

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Police are looking for a man suspected in the Wednesday stabbing of an Auburn man.

Police responded to a call at Edge Apartments on South College Street, an Auburn University alert said Wednesday.

When they arrived, police found a man stabbed with a knife. He was transported to East Alabama Medical Center for treatment and underwent surgery Wednesday afternoon, Auburn police Assistant Chief Tommy Dawson said.

“I think he’s going to be OK,” Dawson said. “I’m not a doctor, but he did come through surgery.”

The victim is in his late teens or early 20s, and was a roommate of the suspect, Dawson said.

Because the case is still under investigation, police would not release the name of either the victim or the suspect, he said.

Police are looking for a “car of interest,” Dawson said, but not the suspect’s car.

I’ve talked with the suspect’s parents, and we’re hoping he’s brought into custody sometime (Wednesday night) or (today),” he said.

Dawson said his department was not releasing a description of the suspect Wednesday night.

“We want to catch this guy,” he said.

The stabbing appeared to result from a dispute between the roommates, he said.

“Out of respect for both families, I’d rather not say what they were arguing about until we talk with the victim’s family more,” he said.

Although he cautioned Auburn residents to always be cautious when a situation such as this arises, Dawson said, “I don’t know of anything that would be a threat to the community.”
