Reward upped in Lanett murder case

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Lanett Police Chief Tommy Morris is hopeful his department will get a break in the homicide investigation of local businessman Larry A. Hudson now that an $80,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the crime.

Hudson, 60, was found dead in his business, the Huguley Machine Shop, about 4:30 p.m. on July 14. Morris said he died from a single gunshot wound to the back of the head.

Family, friends and business associates of Hudson gathered outside the Lanett business, 2524 Veterans Memorial Parkway, Tuesday morning to announce that $75,000 had been collected as a reward. Alabama Gov. Bob Riley offered $5,000 Friday.

“Maybe now someone who saw something that was minute will come forward,” Morris said.

Investigators believe Hudson was killed at the business sometime between 12:30 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. July 14. Even though the shop is located on the busy highway, Steve Smoot, a friend and morning host with “The Bull 100.3,” said people may not know its exact location.

“There is a hope that someone knows something,” Smoot said.

Morris said his department is working with the assistance of the Alabama Bureau of Investigations, Department of Forensic Science, the Chambers County district attorney and the coroner.

Hudson’s case is the third homicide Lanett police have investigated so far this year.

Anyone with information about this crime should contact the Lanett Detective Division at 334-644-5227 or Valley Area Crime Stoppers at 334-756-8200 or 800-756-8282.
