1. How would you prepare Opelika for future growth and economic development?
I have been helping Opelika prepare for future growth and economic development since the day I was sworn in as Mayor. I’ve focused on recruiting businesses that bring high paying manufacturing jobs to Opelika and we’ve recruited over 1,500 new jobs to date. We’ve spent more than $7 million paving roads and building two new streets. We’ve completed an $8 million expansion of our East Side Water Treatment facility and two downtown streetscapes with a third to begin this fall. I created the Crime Task Force to concentrate on policing high crime areas and it has been a major success. Most important, I’ve made it a priority to promote the fact that Opelika has good schools to individuals around the state and around the world. The future is now. It is more important than ever that we have experienced and effective leadership in the Mayor’s office. I offer proven results.
2. What do you consider to be the greatest asset you have to offer the city in your role as mayor?
I love Opelika. It has been an honor to represent the citizens of Opelika the past four years and I hope the voters will allow me to represent them for another term. But Opelika needs a mayor whose love for our city will translate into actions that will provide tangible benefits for our citizens like high paying jobs, good schools, safe neighborhoods, expanded recreational opportunities and the preservation of our rich heritage. This election isn’t about me and it isn’t about my opponent. It is about the people of Opelika and working to make sure that we build a solid future for our children and grandchildren. That has been my priority since I’ve been in office and the results speak for themselves. Opelika is now recognized the world over as a great place to live, work, worship and raise a family. I’m proud to be your mayor. Thank you.
