It’s fair to say that their faith has always been what’s fueled their ministry.
Today, the congregation of Journey Church (journeytogether.net) is sharing fuel of a more literal kind with the Auburn and Opelika community.
During its “gas buy down,” Journey Church plans to roll back the pump price to at least $2.99 for an hour.
Church volunteers will also provide the full service experience to customers by pumping gas and washing windshields.
Journey Church’s Lead pastor Eric Taylor said he got the idea from a friend.
“We could’ve sent out flyers asking folks to come to our church but many of those flyers may have ended up in the trash,” said Taylor, who’ll be one of the volunteers today. “However, we want to connect with both God and the people of the community on a personal level.”
Taylor said the gas buy down will show the community that Journey Church cares for it in a “tangible way.”
“With everything nowadays being self-service and the Internet, you could go all day without human interaction,” Taylor said. “It’s our mission as a church to be the hands and feet of Jesus.”
The congregation now meets at Lee-Scott Academy but hopes to have its own place someday.
“But right now, we’re more focused on building people instead of buildings,” Taylor said.
