Opelika police have identified an infant found dead in a drainage ditch Monday as a black female.
“The manner and cause of death is pending analysis from (The Department of Forensic Sciences) and the medical examiner’s office,” Opelika police Capt. Allan Elkins said Tuesday. “There will be no further information released until we get that.”
The investigation is ongoing.
The infant was found dead in a drainage ditch at Tree Top Apartments on U.S. 280. She was pronounced dead at the scene Monday morning.
Elkins said Monday that in his 22 years on the force, he had not seen an incident of the same nature.
