Planning commission approves plan changes

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Auburn Planning Commission approved changes to plans for an apartment complex Thursday, but not without considering a creek and trail in the complex.

Plans for the development Madison Park recently changed, adding bedrooms to the apartment units, and the commission wanted to make sure the changes wouldn’t affect the creek.

Originally, a higher density of residents was allowed in exchange for a trail, Commission Member Warren McCord said.

Commission Member Cheryl Cobb said she was concerned about downstream.

“This is a creek that a number of folks are spending a lot of money to remediate at one end, and ... I’d like to see it taken care of,” Cobb said.

Gregory Forthofer of Civil Design and Consulting Inc., assured the commission plans included the required stream buffering. If necessary, parking spaces near the stream could be removed to give the stream an even wider berth.

The creek and trail would be for use by the complex’s residents.

At the end of Thursday’s meeting, Cobb said she was disappointed the commission missed another opportunity to acquire right of way or easements that could make the trail useable by the public in the future.

Auburn Technology Park West
The commission approved final subdivision plans to divide the Auburn Technology Park West into six lots.

Corrective rezoning
The commission approved rezoning 5 acres on Martin Luther King Drive.

“This is what we call a corrective rezoning,” City Planning Director Forrest Cotten said. “ … All the property in the general vicinity is rural.”

When the property came before the council more than a year ago, there were multiple legal descriptions submitted, Cotten said. But when the city council passed it, an incorrect description was used.

“What we’re doing is we’re going back and making that correction so what’s reflected in the ordinance is what was intended all along,” Cotten said.

Scott Industrial Park
The commission approved a preliminary subdivision plan approval for the land on East Glenn Avenue and Twin City Court.

Auburn University and Scott Land Company are among the owners, Cotten said. Plans for the land include improvements to the airport.

Twin City Court
The commission agreed to recommend Twin City Court be renamed to Bent Creek Road for continuity.
