A man was arrested Monday afternoon after barging into a Lee Road 54 business with blood on his hands, Auburn police Capt. Tom Stofer said.
The man was a passenger in a vehicle, and when the vehicle stopped at the La-Z-Bee, the man got out, Stofer said.
A Lee County resident of Lee Road 27 called the sheriff’s office saying a strange man ran through a house, made threatening remarks and kept running, Lee County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Van Jackson said.
The man then ran into Erosion Service and Supply on Lee Road 54 at approximately 12:30 p.m., employees said.
He acted very strangely and said people were trying to accuse him of killing someone, said Tammy Scarborough, an employee at the business.
“The guy’s got blood on his hands,” employee Kaley Segars said. “I’m crying, I’m, like, freaking out.”
Small smears of blood were still evident on the counter Monday afternoon.
Employees called the police, and “he took off running,” Scarborough said. “He leaped over our fence.”
Police caught him in a nearby field, she said.
“In the process of identifying him, they discovered he also had a violation of a court order,” Stofer said. “So, we arrested him, and he has since been transported to the Lee County (Detention Facility).”
The man had a small amount of blood on his hands and a ripped shirt, most likely from falling and scraping himself, Stofer said.
Auburn police have received no reports of any violent crimes that might be linked to the man, Stofer said.
“I don’t know what’s causing him to act the way he was acting,” he said.
No injuries were reported in the incident, but the employees were still shaken later Monday afternoon.
“We’re all really freaked out,” Segars said.
