Auburn Fire Division responded to the scene of a single-vehicle accident on Webster Road in Auburn Monday evening.

When units arrived on the scene they discovered that a 2007 Honda Civic driven by Stuart P. Allen, 21, of Auburn had left the road while traveling between Pumphrey Avenue and Bellwood Place and struck a utility pole, according to Capt. Tom Stofer of the Auburn Police Division.

The vehicle overturned, sliding down an embankment, trapping Allen and a 21 year-old passenger in the vehicle.

Allen was transported by Lifesaver Helicopter to Columbus Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries while the passenger in the vehicle was taken to East Alabama Medical Center for treatment.

The passenger’s identity was not released pending notification of relatives.

The accident is still under investigation at this time, according to Stofer.
