Q & A on Friday's Press Conference

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Auburn’s Assistant Police Chief Tommy Dawson fielded a variety of questions related to the Lauren Burk murder Friday. The answers were compiled by reporter Amy Weaver.

Can you elaborate on the gas can, maybe where it was found?

“All I really want to say about where it was found was that is was found in the downtown area of Auburn. ... We are trying to leave no stoned unturned in this case.”

Can you tell us if she knew the attacker?

“Again, I don’t want to speculate to that. I will tell you we have some strong leads, some promising leads, and I hope to be standing before you soon with some good news.”

Can you say anything about the scene where she was found?

“She was found on North College Street or Alabama Highway 147 between Farmville Church and U.S. Highway 280. Due to our investigation and the hard work being done right now, that’s all I really want to say about it at this point. Again, I know you get tired of hearing me say that, but please respect that.”

Can you say if there’s any connection to the arrest in Phenix City last night?

“No ma’am, at this time I can’t comment on that either.”

Can you tell us what was taken from her?

“No ma’am not at this time.”

Since Wednesday, have you interviewed any other ‘persons of interest’?

“We have interviewed several people. We will continue to interview people and that’s really all I want to say about that at this time. Again, I apologize for having to tell you that. I know you want more, but I just can’t give you more right now.”
