The Auburn City Council has plans to hit the books tonight as they tour the nearly completed addition to the Auburn Public Library during their committee of the whole session.
The building is finished, and the carpet’s down, but the shelves and books still have to be installed, Library Director Margie Huffman said.
“The walls are painted, so you can get a really good idea of (what it will look like) with the finishing touches and cleanup,” she said.
Huffman guessed the library might start moving its youth services into the new space in about two weeks.
The addition will house youth services and summer programs, making more room in the original building for more computer services. The council often tours new city facilities when they are almost complete, City Manager Charlie Duggan said.
“We want to make sure the council is well-informed on projects, to see that the city’s dollars are wisely spent,” Duggan said. “And anyone who’s ever been in our library should be impressed…”
Waffle House
Also on today’s agenda is the conditional use for a company that would like to turn an old doughnut shop on West Glenn Avenue into a Waffle House.
The Auburn Planning Commission at its last meeting recommended the council approve conditional use of a restaurant at that location, allowing the restaurant to locate there if it met certain criteria.
Fire equipment
The Auburn Public Safety Department is asking the council to sign contracts for 10 self-contained breathing apparatus ($39,944), 82 sections of fire hose ($18,038) and 15 sets of firefighter turnout gear ($20,325).
All the equipment will be new, Duggan said.
The meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the council chambers at 141 N. Ross St.
