The name of the driver who died in a gasoline tanker single-vehicle accident Wednesday was released by the Lee County Coroner’s office Thursday morning as Charles Michael Stoker of Opelika.
Stoker, 47, was the only occupant in the tractor-trailer that overturned near the intersection of U.S. Highway 280 and Lee Road 379, according to Lee County Coroner Bill Harris.
According to Harris, the one-vehicle accident occurred after Stoker attempted to avoid a vehicle that pulled into his path onto the highway from Lee Road 379.
Stoker was airlifted to The Medical Center in Columbus, where he died Wednesday from multiple blunt force injuries, according to Harris. Stoker’s name was held until the next of kin were notified.
