Opelika Main Street will hold a fundraising event in the same place the nonprofit organization focuses its efforts and services — downtown Opelika.
The Dinner/Dance/Auction “Fun”draiser will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday at the Opelika Depot on Railroad Avenue in downtown.
Admission to the event is $30 per person.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at downtown merchants Fringe, Jackie’s Cards & Gifts, Canine American and Southern Crossing, as well as the day of the event.
Dinner/Dance/Auction ‘Fun’draiser is one of the largest fundraisers for the organization, Opelika Main Street Director Velinda Wheeles said.
Proceeds from the Dinner/Dance/Auction ‘Fun’draiser will go toward the Opelika Main Street’s events and services that include a Fourth of July celebration, a summer farmers’ market, a breast cancer awareness walk and a “Howl-o-ween” dog costume parade — all held in downtown Opelika.
Opelika Main Street is a 22-year-old membership-based organization, based on a nationally recognized program, that focuses on promoting the businesses and revitalization of downtown Opelika. When you take care of the downtown area, you also take care of the entire city, Wheeles said.
“I feel like we are a big part of the economical development that’s going on around here.”
Friday’s event will include a silent auction and a live auction. Longhorn Steakhouse will provide food and musical group Route 66 will perform at the event.
Attendees can also eat at downtown restaurants that will be open during the event, Wheeles said. The organization is working to make the fundraiser an annual event, Wheeles said.
