The Auburn Police Division is investigating more than a dozen cases of vandalism over the weekend that took place along West Samford Avenue and Wire Road in which vehicles had their tires slashed.
According to police reports, the vandalism took place during Auburn University’s football game against LSU Saturday evening.
“We’re definitely looking into this and currently have a promising lead we’re pursuing,” said Auburn Police Division Assistant Chief Tom Dawson.
In some of the vandalism incidents, the vehicles had one, two or all four tires slashed.
“This is the kind of thing that’s senseless and no one wants to have to put up with,” said Dawson.
Although the rivalry between Auburn University and LSU is well-documented, Dawson doesn’t feel these latest incidents of vandalism are the work of fan.
“I don’t think this has anything to do with the Auburn/ LSU rivalry,” Dawson said. “Either way, we want our fans to be able to enjoy the game and know that their property isn’t going to be damaged while they do.”
