When Frank Uhlig was about 10 years old, his mother bought him a little blue plastic camera for his birthday. More than 50 years later, he’s still snapping away, capturing his view of the world.
Starting today, Uhlig will share that worldview at his exhibit at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center in Auburn.
Uhlig said photography is in some ways similar to his other passion — mathematics, which he teaches at Auburn University.
“They’re two creative endeavors,” Uhlig said. “You always have to face a new problem, have something new to discern. It’s the same thing with pictures.”
But his passion for photography has little to do with his day job, he said.
“I could be a musician or a car dealer, and I would still do it,” he said. “I would still have my eyes. I would still see something and say, ‘Wow.’”
Uhlig has put on exhibits before, but in this one, he took a new approach, pairing up photos that might otherwise be unrelated but that complement each other. His current exhibit will be on display through May 9 at the center at 222 East Drake Ave., in Auburn. Admission is free.
