Auburn Councilman Arthur L. Dowdell said Sunday he has received multiple threats since he pulled up a handful of Confederate flags from soldiers’ graves Thursday.
E-mails and phone calls included threats to burn crosses in his yard and to kill him and his family, he said.
“We got hundreds, if not thousands, of e-mails already,” he said.
Dowdell said he has been followed and been told he’s being watched.
“Why should I be threatened and my kids crying, my grown kids worried their daddy’s going to lose his life behind four (Confederate) flags?” he said.
Dowdell said while he did not entirely trust Auburn police, he did trust Auburn Police Chief Frank deGraffenried and he would contact him Monday. He said he would also contact the FBI.
