A 63-year-old Auburn man died late Sunday night after his vehicle hit a tree off Lee Road 58 in Auburn, according to the Lee County Coroner’s Office.
Lee County Chief Deputy Coroner Gene Manning said he pronounced Horace Milner dead at the scene at 9:20 p.m., 18 minutes after emergency crews were called to the accident.
Manning said Monday that Milner was traveling west on Lee Road 58 when his 2005 Chevy Z71 pickup left the roadway and hit a tree. Firefighters from the Southwest Volunteer Fire Department extricated Milner from the vehicle, Manning said.
It is not known how Milner left the roadway, but Manning said alcohol may have been a factor. He also said Milner was traveling at a high rate of speed and died instantly when he hit the tree.
The Alabama State Troopers are leading the investigation. Manning said an autopsy was not ordered in this case. He will instead rely on tests from the blood he drew at the scene to determine Milner’s blood-alcohol level.
Manning said test results were not back yet to know if alcohol was a factor in a one-vehicle accident early Saturday morning that claimed the life of Auburn University student Bradley Langston. The 21-year-old from Lakeland, Fla., died of blunt force trauma to the chest after his car left Shug Jordan Parkway in Auburn between South College Street and Wire Road. He was ejected from his vehicle, according to the coroner’s office.
