MONTGOMERY — The entry of State Treasurer Kay Ivey into the Republican race for governor leaves one of Gov. Bob Riley's Cabinet members, Bill Johnson, as the major unknown for the GOP ticket.
Johnson is director of the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs. He says he's getting lots of encouragement to run for governor, but he hasn't made a decision.
Ivey has scheduled announcements across the state on Wednesday to kick off her campaign for governor. Ivey will join four Republicans who have already announced for the primary in June 2010: Greenville businessman Tim James, former Chief Justice Roy Moore, former two-year college Chancellor Bradley Byrne, and state Rep. Robert Bentley of Tuscaloosa.
