MONTGOMERY - Two longtime leaders of the Alabama Education Association, Paul Hubbert and Joe Reed, will each receive a major award from the National Education Association at its Human and Civil Rights Award Dinner on July 2 in San Diego, Calif.

NEA announced that Hubbert and Reed will receive the H. Councill Trenholm Award for expanding educational opportunities for minority students and educators and improving intergroup relations in public schools.

Hubbert and Reed have led AEA since 1969. During those 40 years, membership has grown from 21,000 to more than 104,000.
