»  Comments | Post a Comment

Auburn police have identified Brenda G. Stanton of Auburn as the lone occupant of a Toyota Camry killed in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday night.

Capt. Tom Stofer said officers are still investigating what caused a Ford Expedition traveling toward Auburn on Alabama Highway 14 to leave the roadway and collide with Stanton’s vehicle, who was stopped in traffic on Webster Road.

Stofer said the impact occurred on the driver’s side of Stanton’s car, causing severe injuries to the 52-year-old. She was transported to East Alabama Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

The two people in the Expedition, both of Auburn, were also transported to EAMC where they were treated and released.

Stofer said their names are not being released at this time in the investigation. He said law enforcement does not expect alcohol to be a factor in the crash.

Also Wednesday night, Troy Waylon Bryan, 38, of Opelika was killed after his 1996 Mazda 626 overturned on Andrews Road at about 7:30 p.m., according to a release from Opelika Police Capt. Allan Elkins.

Officers discovered the vehicle lying upside down on the north side of Andrews after a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries. Elkins said Bryan was traveling west on Andrews Road when his vehicle left the roadway on the south side, then crossed the roadway and overturned.

Lee County Deputy Coroner Charlotte Patterson pronounced Bryan dead at 8 p.m.

OPD is investigating the accident.
