Randy Nolan was thoughtful and cheerful, a lighthearted joker dedicated to his family.
That’s how loved ones and friends remembered him, the Rev. Clint Capps said at Nolan’s funeral Thursday afternoon.
Randy Brent Nolan, 20, of Auburn, was killed when he was struck by a car in Panama City Beach, Fla., Sunday. The driver of the car, Dakota Matthews, then hit several other vehicles and died, Panama City Beach police have said.
Pictures of Nolan hugging family and friends, goofing off and grinning at the camera flashed on the wall of Frederick’s Funeral Home chapel.
Seats filled, and people spilled into the lobby to hear the service.
“I think most people could say Randy was the sunshine in their lives,” Capps said.
Working in the radiology department of East Alabama Medical Center, Capps said, Nolan bought flowers for patients he didn’t know, just to cheer them up.
Nolan’s friend Keary Watts remembered Nolan as a bright spot on a bad day.
“He could always make me feel better,” Watts said. “You could sit up all night and talk about anything with Randy.”
Friend Devony Burroughs recalled Nolan’s catch phrases and jokes.
“I miss his goofy laugh,” she said.
A spokesman with Florida’s District 14 Medical Examiner’s office said it would be at least May before toxicology test results came back. Samples from both bodies are being tested for alcohol and all controlled substances, a standard procedure with traffic deaths, the spokesman said.
