Farm Transforming to Venue For Country Music Festival

»  Comments | Post a Comment

It’s front porch sitting many only dream of, but the view at this Opelika farm is drastically changing.

Jay Woodall is the Superintendent for Jim Parker Building, and he manages the farm at Parker Hill. He says, “Ten months ago it had cows all over it.”

Since October, the 300 hundred acres on Parker Hill have been primped and pampered to create what Woodall calls a postcard picture, “When you pull on to the top of the hill, it makes you want to look over and see what's next. You say man, how much prettier will it get?”

It's a draw David Adams is banking on. He's producing the Sticks Country Music Festival that's happening on Parker Hill in April. He scouted out the property last summer and approached Parker with the idea. Adams is hoping the country landscapes will cast their spell on everyone in attendance, “Were focused on what people are thinking when they walk out.”

Woodall says his crews are hard at work, transforming the land that's named after its owner, prominent Auburn businessman, Jim Parker.

Woodall tells us, “I was here when the first cows came. I was here when the pond was built, when the cabin was built. This is almost like my baby, “ but, it’s a baby Woodall says he is willing to share with the thousands that could roll in for the festival.

The show will take place in a natural grassy amphitheater on the farm. Crews have put down gravel at the foot of the amphitheater to hold the stage, and in a couple of weeks the grassy knoll will be covered with thousands waiting to see their favorite artists.

Woodall says Sticks is just the beginning for Parker Hill. He says Jim Parker and his team have plans to make the farm a permanent entertainment venue.

As for the mess this new venture may leave behind, Woodall says there is good news, “It can't make any more mess than a cow."
