It’s one thing to enroll at Auburn University and become a part of the Auburn family.
It’s another to bring your family with you.
This fall, the Plains will be home to Elizabeth, Sarah, Will and Caitlin Haynes, a set of quadruplets from Ohatchee.
The siblings earned notoriety as youngsters when they were used in an advertising campaign for Alfa Insurance. Fellow incoming freshmen attending the first session of Camp War Eagle this week didn’t recognize them, but Sarah said some of the parents did.
To other 18-year-olds, Elizabeth, Sarah, Will and Caitlin look like best friends, maybe some could pass as siblings, but quadruplets?
Elizabeth is the social one. Sarah, the only blond, is the shy, dramatic one. Caitlin is the planner. And Will, besides being the boy, is the smart one, according to his sisters.
Caitlin said they didn’t plan on attending the same school, but out-of-state colleges were out of the question since she claims they aren’t “crazy smart” to earn full-ride scholarships. And since mom Tammy, a school teacher, and dad Bruce, a UPS driver, couldn’t pay for four tuitions, the teenagers had to find their own way, mom said.
Caitlin said they always loved Auburn, though, and then they each earned tuition scholarships. Loans and part-time jobs, which they are all currently looking for, will cover the rest. Elizabeth said they are competitive with each other. Sarah said they are best friends. Will would say something if his sisters would let him.
The closeness and the competition will likely continue at AU, even though they are headed down different paths. Will plans to study business, Elizabeth will be in public relations and Caitlin and Sarah will be in the College of Human Sciences.
