People need to realize entertainment options in town
Thank you for the excellent arts tabloid that you published last week. We need to be reminded that folks who live in this “cow college town” have many opportunities to be entertained and stretched intellectually by means of the arts.
I hope that the local chambers of commerce and the tourist bureau bought lots of extra copies to distribute to people considering our area a likely one to live and grow. We appreciate your continuing support of the arts!

Auburn should be recognized as academic institution first
Mary Belk is to be commended for her excellent column, “Football turned into businesses for colleges,” in the Nov. 4 Opelika-Auburn News. Let’s get our priorities straight: Auburn University is an institution of higher learning and football is only a game.

Downtown Trick or Treat event in Auburn proves to be a hit
On behalf of the City of Auburn Parks and Recreation department, I would like to thank all of the downtown merchants that participated in our 9th Annual Downtown Trick or Treat event on Oct. 29.
Thanks to the generosity of our downtown merchants, local organizations and special guests from Auburn University, we were able to provide a safe, fun-filled evening of entertainment for thousands of children and their families.
This year’s event was a huge success and we appreciate the downtown merchants’ support and participation. This holiday season, I encourage citizens to shop in Auburn and support the businesses that provide us with goods and services and support us year-round.
