Opelika police deserve much appreciation for professionalism
We want to express our sincere appreciation for the excellent response that our family received Aug. 3 from the Opelika Police Department during a crisis intervention. The policemen and policewomen handled themselves professionally and exhibited patience in their difficult task.
The responding officers were: Capt. Terry McMenamin, Lt. Alan Barton, Sgt. Marcus Colquitt, Sgt. Rob Cook, Sgt. Mike Veasey, officer Robert Bugg, officer Glen Loveday, officer Daniel Metevier, officer Keith Oshel, officer Cody Robinson, officer Billy Smith and communications operator Kerri Kelly.
Also, for doing a job well done, we commend detective Brandon Henderson, administrative coordinator Joan Hussey and the front desk clerks for efficient and courteous service.

Mayfield best choice for Lee County Family Court Judge
My name is Gail Meek and I am a former Chief Assistant District Attorney in the Lee County Courts. I worked in the Courts for 27 years prior to my retirement. For more than 20 years, I worked with or in association with Margaret Mayfield. Over many years I have watched Margaret handle cases and make decisions. She is a very intelligent woman with good common sense. She is a Christian with a strong Christian family. Margaret values the family and the safety of our children. She has worked closely with all agencies involved in the Family Court. She knows the situation from every view.
Margaret has represented parents, children and the State of Alabama on thousands of cases involving child abuse and neglect, divorce, child custody; child support and juvenile delinquency issues.
I also know her opponent. Although he is a fine person and I find no complaint with him in that regard, Margaret has the broad based experience to run the administrative task of managing the huge Family Court caseload. She has the “in the trenches” experience it takes to understand and rule on difficult cases involving safety of children and the rights of parents. She will always apply the law but never legislate from the bench.
Family Court is the place where the law and the best interest of the family often collide and difficult decisions must be made using a balancing test. There is great discretion in Family Court law, so it is imperative to elect a judge who has experienced every kind of case from every perspective over a period of many years. The very lives of children are at stake.
That person is Margaret Mayfield and I support her fully.
