Lee Co. takes no further action on broadband resolution

After additional discussion in the Lee County Commission’s pre-meeting Monday, members took no more action on the broadband resolution approved at their Oct. 13
meeting.
At that meeting, commissioners agreed to commit $8,333.34 to a feasibility study on bringing broadband service to Lee County, but only if the cities of Auburn and Opelika, as well as Chambers, Macon and Russell counties, all agree to participate and that it is legal for the county to own and operate such a service.
Members took no action
relating to the resolution during their regular meeting.
After hearing from Kim Oas, Lee County human resources/safety manager, the commission did approve changes to the updated personnel policies presented to members to review at their last meeting.
Commissioners officially adopted the publication titled,“A Guide to Lee County Government,” so copies can be put in county offices to help citizens with the “who, what and where” of services provided by their county government.
In her presentation, Wendy Swann, governmental relations coordinator, said the guide is the final result of two years of work, and the approved guide will be posted on the county’s Web site.
In other business,
n Lee County Engineer Neal Hall presented an updated county Highway Reference Guide and map to commissioners at their last meeting which included addition pages of changes seen on the county’s roads since the last time the reference guide was published.
n Commissioners adopted the official county-maintained road system, and commission chairman Bill English thanked Hall for including those pages to help members understand changes as they use the guide and map as references.
n At the county administrator’s request, commissioners reduced the 2010 Environmental Services fund budget by $42,000, from $60,000 down to $18,000.
n Members approved a retail beer license (off premise only) for Fish Bait, 5330 Lee Road 379.
n At the request of Kathy Russell, director of the Lee County Emergency Management Agency, the commission established the National Incident Management System as the standard for incident management in Lee County and approved the Lee County EMA Training Officer to be designated to as the local point of contact.
