What exactly are our interests in nations overseas?
In a recent letter, Sam Nichols stated that Social Security and Medicare “have been great for two or three generations of Americans; for our children, however, they are an utter disaster, suffocating them in debt.”
It is due to actions by our politicians that our children are suffocating in debt. People in this country have been paying for years into Social Security and Medicare since the inception of these programs in order to be able to live with a modicum of decency and dignity.
They should not have to live off soup kitchens, food banks and charities like beggars.
Their hard-earned money is being diverted and squandered into senseless, unnecessary wars promoted by what Eisenhower called the Military Industrial Complex which spreads its business in every state, feeding politicians eager to preserve their seats in Congress as they enrich themselves at the expense of honest working folks.
We are spending trillions of dollars to saturate the world with CIA agents, unnecessary military hardware and personnel.
We encourage our young people to sacrifice their lives with false slogans of bravery and vainglory and we scare our citizens with false threats. For what?
I still have not heard what our vital interests may be in those far away, inhospitable lands.
What are the Arabs going to do with their oil? Eat it or drink it?
What are we afraid of?
We have enough power to pulverize the planet.
Are we afraid of the Saddam Husseins whom we had successfully asphyxiated for years?
Can you explain these conundrums to us?
May it not be better living in this world with examples of social consciousness rather than with arrogant adventurism?
