Honest government cannot come without honest elections
If Representative Gerald Allen’s photo ID bill, HB227, isn’t passed by our legislature to help prevent some of the voter fraud that takes place in Alabama we can’t hope for honest elections, and without honest elections we can’t hope for honest government.
If legislators vote against his bill, those legislators should be removed from the legislature later this year by their constituents.
My understanding is that those legislators who oppose this bill are mainly members of the Black Caucus and other Democrats who say that the bill would hurt Democratic candidates and keep poor black and white citizens from being able to vote because many of them don’t have and can’t afford a photo ID.
But voter fraud disenfranchises qualified voters including Democrats and blacks.
If you don’t believe that, just ask some of the black voters over in and around Hale County.
Furthermore, Allen’s bill contains a provision on page 6 as follows:
“Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, the Department of Public Safety shall not charge a fee for the issuance of an original, renewal, or a duplicate of a non-driver identification card for an individual without a valid driver’s license or valid photo identification under this section, who is at least 18 years of age at the next primary, general, municipal, or special election.”
