White's mother faces charge; trial date rescheduled

LAFAYETTE — Several members of Noah White’s family testified throughout his seven-day trial.
Even a recorded interview with his late father, Ray White, who passed away last fall, was played for the jury. But the mother of the 25-year-old defendant never took the stand.
Noah White testified that Willene B. White, 53, of Lanett drove him on Sept. 21, 2008 to his uncle’s house in Huguley with a number of loaded guns in the backseat. She was an eye-witness to the subsequent shootout with law enforcement at the residence that led to her son’s arrest.
Noah White was tried on seven counts of attempted murder and one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied building from the incident. A 12-member jury found him guilty of all charges Wednesday.
His mother also faces a charge steming from the night of shooting.
Willene B. White was arrested in April 2009 after she was indicted by a Chambers County grand jury in February 2009 for obstructing governmental operations, a misdemeanor charge. According to the indictment, she interfered with the investigation of Noah White by giving false information to Chambers County Sheriff’s deputy Sgt. Shannon Rollins.
Rollins and other deputies were responding to a domestic violence call that September night, when Rollins was shot by Noah White, according to trial testimony.
Chambers County court officials said her jury trial was scheduled for this week, but will be rescheduled for a later term since Noah White’s trial lasted more than a week.
Willene B. White sat in the courtroom on several days of her son’s trial and was present for the verdict Wednesday. When she left the courtroom Tuesday, she mouthed to her son, “I love you.”
