All the land owned by the Auburn United Methodist Church near downtown Auburn will be considered one parcel.
The Auburn Planning Commission agreed Thursday to allow the eight lots owned by the church along East Magnolia Avenue, South Gay Street and East Thach Avenue to be consolidated into one parcel.
The area includes several buildings, including the sanctuary of Auburn United Methodist as well as the buildings previously occupied by St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.
With St. Michael’s relocating to a new building on North College Street, AUMC was able to purchase the Catholic church properties in December for future expansion.
City planner Cathy Cooper said the only construction planned for the property currently is a breezeway to connect the old St. Michael’s building with an AUMC building.
In other matters, the commission also approved a conditional use for property in Auburn Technology Park West for Project Auto Safeguard, a manufacturer of plastic products for the medical industry. The new industry is expected to construct a building in six phases, with each phase encompassing about 100,000 square feet.
All items approved by the planning commission will be recommended to the Auburn City Council for final approval.
