Auburn City Councilman Arthur L. Dowdell apologized Tuesday night for removing four Confederate battle flags from Pine Hill Cemetery on April 23.

Dowdell, the representative for Ward 1, pointed his apology toward members of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and Sons of Confederate Veterans attending the council’s regular meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, the council passed a resolution urging Dowdell “to make a public apology to the citizens of Auburn.” With the resolution, the city council also condemned Dowdell’s actions as “inappropriate and beneath the office of a city councilman.”

Dowdell opposed the resolution since he hadn’t seen it prior to the meeting, but agreed to voice his opinion to the council and citizens later in the meeting.
During the citizens comments portion of the meeting, Dowdell and the rest of the council listened to 25 citizens express their opinions on Dowdell and the Confederate flag for nearly two hours. After 12 people had spoken, Ward 8 Councilman Bob Norman asked to suspend the rest of citizens communications in order for the council to proceed with the remainder of the agenda. The remaining business took all of five minutes and citizens were speaking again.

The majority of citizen speakers were from outside Auburn. About half supported Dowdell and his actions, agreeing use of the flag was offensive.
“I don’t care if it was one flag or 100 flags, if it don’t say United States of America, to me, it’s wrong,” said the Rev. Larry Taylor, who identified himself as Dowdell’s brother.
Others, including several members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, disagreed, and said they considered the flag removal a violation of civil rights.
“You may not agree with them, but that doesn’t give you the right to violate freedom of speech,” said Auburn resident Benjamin Bacon.
Billy Bearden said he traveled 90 miles from Mt. Zion, Ga., because he was so motivated by the issue. Bearden, dressed in a full Confederate uniform, carrying a small Confederate battle flag, marched up and down the sidewalk in front of city hall for a couple of hours before the meeting.

“I’m here to speak for those who can’t,” he said, referring to the Confederate soldiers.

Bearden told the council he considered Dowdell’s actions to be the same as someone knocking over his father’s headstone in Arlington National Cemetery and spitting on it.

Dowdell defended his actions in his address. Since neither the city manager nor the mayor were able to tell him why the flags were in Pine Hill, Dowdell said he thought they were there for a KKK rally. Had he known they were there for the Confederate Memorial Day ceremony, he said he would have walked away.

He apologized to both Confederate groups. He said it was not his intention to hurt them. Dowdell said his actions were the result of “miscommunication” and “ignorance.” “I’m sorry this happened,” he said. “I hope we can get passed it.”

During the meeting, the mayor and Norman each read prepared statements expressing their disapproval of their fellow councilman’s action.

Ward 5 Councilman Robin Kelley got in the last word of the evening when he expressed his disappointment in Dowdell for not asking him about the flags. Pine Hill is in Kelley’s ward.

“I was never contacted,” Kelley said. “If you called me, I would have told you (what they were for.)

“It’s desecration what you did. End of discussion.”

AMEN to that.

H. R. 1388 is a bad enough bill as it is. I just hate seeing anyone make it what it’s not. I get enough false claims in my e-mail.

That other will get here soon enough if it’s not already. Clinton started that ball rolling just by mentioning it on her trip there. Or was it a promise?

Dowdell is really the least of anyones concern.
Roger - You got that right. What’s news about a black politician who commits criminal acts and walks away? Someone advise when he croaks and we can line his grave with Flags!

H. R. 1088 is a boll to reauthorize and reform the national service laws. This Act may be cited as the “Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act” or the “GIVE Act”. Nothing in it mentions Hamas. Doing a search on the pdf for the words Hamas, Palestine, and refugges, reveals a result of zero. Nada. From what I understand, it’s going to pay young people to volunteer to do things in this country that volunteers do now for nothing. You join, and you’re paid, and your time counts the same as military time. It may be a way to attract those that would join the military. And in so doing, eventually cripple the military so much that the military may cease to exist. You know what will happen before that.

Read smoe about it at

But its real mission is to radicalize American youth and use them to bring about “social change” through threats, pressure, tension and confrontation—the tactics used by the father of community organizing, Saul “The Red” Alinsky.

Seems like the Dowdell subject has run it’s course. Dowdell is really the least of anyones concern.

Limkiln:
The obvious is there and the stupid can not see it for their ignorance.I really fear Obama is not legaly entitled to the job he holds. I have no doubt he has Muslim and Arab leanings an he will aid in the destruction of Israel at every chance he gets. Obama is a direct threat to America and our Constitution and quite a few of the Democrats are also especially the Democrat leadership. If you are a young person you are going to live in a literal hades within 20 years and maybe less.

Sorry LimeKiln—You’re going to have to do better than that.  HR 1388 says nothing of the kind.  It’s an education bill.

And what does this have to do with Dowdell and the Confederate flag anyway?

WHO’S SIDE IS THIS GUY ON

Whether you are an Obama fan, or not, EVERYONE IN THE U. S. needs to know….

Something happened… H.R. 1388 was passed yesterday, behind our backs. You may want to read about it. It wasn’t mentioned on the news… just went by on the ticker tape at the bottom of the CNN screen.

Obama funds $20M in tax payer dollars to immigrate Hamas Refugees to the USA . This is the news that didn’t make the headlines…

By executive order, President Barack Obama has ordered the expenditure of $20.3 million in “migration assistance” to the Palestinian refugees and “conflict victims” in Gaza .

The “presidential determination”, which allows hundreds of thousands of Palestinians with ties to Hamas to resettle in the United States , was signed on January 27 and appeared in the Federal Register on February 4.

Few on Capitol Hill, or in the media, took note that the order provides a free ticket replete with housing and food allowances to individuals who have displayed their overwhelming support to the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the parliamentary election of January 2006.

Let’s review…itemized list of some of Barack Obama’s most recent actions since his inauguration:

His first call to any head of state, as president, was to Mahmoud Abbas, leader of Fatah party in the Palestinian territory.

His first one-on-one television interview with any news organization was with Al Arabia television.

His first executive order was to fund/facilitate abortion(s) not just here within the U. S. , but within the world, using U. S. tax payer funds.

He ordered Guantanamo Bay closed and all military trials of detainees halted.

He ordered overseas CIA interrogation centers closed.

He withdrew all charges against the masterminds behind the USS Cole and the “terror attack” on 9/11.

Now we learn that he is allowing hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refuges to move to, and live in, the US at American taxpayer expense.

These important, and insightful, issues are being “lost” in the blinding bail-outs and “stimulation” packages.

Doubtful? To verify this for yourself:

PLEASE PASS THIS ON… AMERICA NEEDS TO KNOW

WE are losing this country at a rapid pace.

MP83 stated she attended the Auburn council meeting and gave her name before she spoke at the meeting. There are no tapes of her condoning Mr. Dowdell’s actionsbeing white and Indian who had anciestors who might have fought on the side of the Confederacy.MP83 joins Nixon and Clinton on missing tapes. The world press would have run the story of a white/indian woman of confederate anceistory defends black city councilman desicrating graves, abuses women and applauds the mayor and police chief letting an 11 year old child get a felony conviction because he is white yet if you are black it is ok because something offends you.

What a spin you have MP83.Why are you and Auburn guy afraid to use your real names is it because you are not really from Auburn.

I’ve said it before MPB3 thinks her weird views are everyone elses, I think she works for CNN.
I have an Iron Cross tattooed to my left bicep MPB3, does that make me a racist, or is like Hollywood portrays the South, 99.9% of the white males down here are racist?
