VALLEY — No one was injured Friday morning after a fire broke out at the Norman W. Paschall Co. utilization facility on River Road.

Byron Pigg, chief of the East Alabama Fire District, said they responded shortly after the call and found a machine and raw materials near the machine on fire. Paschall turns textile fibers and by-products into usable materials, such as insulation for automobile carpet.

Pigg said the building’s sprinkler system had turned on and kept the fire under control until firefighters could extinguish it completely. Lanett and Hugley fire departments provided mutual aid.

Paschall employees safely evacuated the building and returned to help firefighters remove the burned raw material, Pigg said.

East Alabama remained on scene for several hours in case the fire reignited. Pigg said they will assist the company in determining the cause of the fire.
