‘60 Minutes’ on guns

I knew when I watched this “60 Minutes” report last night that it would be big news on the web today.

I was right. It’s already drawn more than 700 comments on the CBS site, and bloggers are picking it up left and right (no pun intended).

If you missed it, catch up below. The piece examines how gun control issues—sales, registration, even the weaponry itself—have been impacted by recent events, including the economic downturn and the election of President Obama.

Yes, it’s 12 and a half minutes long (not 60, as the program’s name implies). But if you don’t want to be left out of the conversation at the water cooler, take the time to watch it.

If you missed it in the print edition of the Saturday Opelika-Auburn News, or if you live outside the coverage area, please check out my most recent column:

Red-light cameras an important tool that saves lives

If you follow my Twitter feed (@jefoster), you know that I was having a bad time with red-light runners last week. For some reason, it seemed even worse than usual—though it’s always bad. Then Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart was killed in yet another senseless tragedy, so I decided to write about it this week.

I got an e-mail this morning from someone who works with The National Campaign to Stop Red Light Running. They want to reprint my column in their monthly newsletter. I’ve passed it along to the powers that be at Media General, so we’ll see what happens.

Folks, it’s simple: Stop on red.

And don’t be the first car through an intersection.

    Let’s stop this madness.
