Obama as funnyman
By Jennifer J. Foster
If you were away from your TV Saturday night (or if you were splitting your time with the Sprint Cup series race in Darlington, S.C., like me), you didn’t see President Obama’s first turn at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner.
This event is a tradition for Washington insiders, especially the media. It’s a time when they all gather to poke fun at themselves—and others.
Obama proved to be a pretty decent comedian. Everyone is talking about it this morning, so if you didn’t catch it, you can catch up by reading this story or watching the set for yourself below.
Also, sharp-tongued comedienne Wanda Sykes took to the mike after Obama. She delivered a couple of partisan shots that I felt were out of character for this event (for example, saying that she hopes Rush Limbaugh’s kidneys would fail), but she had some funny ones, too. Especially good were her lines about the photographic evidence that proves the media’s love for the new president and what Sykes thought when she heard about Michelle Obama’s now-infamous procotol gaffe with Queen Elizabeth. You can catch Sykes’s performance here.
