Deadline tonight

If you live in Alabama, you need to know about the work of the Alabama Citizens for Constitutional Reform. It’s a group of concerned citizens who are pushing for a new state constitution to replace the antiquated, complicated, Montgomery-centric albatross that our current constitution is.

The ACCR is organizing a mock constitutional convention to demonstrate for our fair lawmakers the process by which a new constitution could be written. This is as much an educational exercise for legislators as it is for rank-and-file Alabamians.

There are two direct ways you can get involved: One, you can apply to serve as a delegate to the mock convention. Delegates will be chosen by local selection committees. Two, you can serve on a local selection committee (LSC).

You have until Dec. 31 to complete the delegate application, but today is the deadline to let ACCR staff know if you’re interested in being on an LSC. This is a great way to get to know other like-minded folks in your congressional district and get involved in the most important issue in our state. If you’re interested, e-mail Audrey Salgado, special projects coordinator for the ACCR, at audrey AT constitutionalreform DOT org.

From looking over the ACCR website, it appears they will be hand picking the “delegates”. I don’t expect any drama or hard fought compromises to occur.
