ELECTION DAY!!!

FINALLY!!! It’s HERE!!!

If you’re up and you’re reading this blog, check out CNN for coverage of the first voting being done in DIXVILLE NOTCH, N.H.

Dixville Notchians (wow, that sounds really cool) pride themselves on being “First in the Nation!“ when it comes to voting. When the national media comes to town for the primary and the general election, the town’s population explodes by about 1000 percent.

BREAKING NEWS! The vote from Dixville Notch is in. And of course, CNN is going to announce the winner ... more than six and a half hours before the polls on the East Coast even open!

And the winner is ... Barack Obama, who wins 15 votes to John McCain’s six votes.

Yikes! I wonder how the McCain people will explain that trouncing. I’m guessing they’ll say something about it not being indicative, not a bellwether, etc. But according to some pundits, if the battleground states turn in Obama’s favor, McCain could be staring down a 2-to-1 deficit in electoral votes by the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

But, polls are just polls—the votes are what matter! The next 18 hours are why we actually hold the elections.

OK, folks ... get out there and do your civic duty. Let me know how things are going out there and what sorts of lines you’re seeing at your polls. Anecdotes welcome!

Happy Election Day, everyone!

I just found it in the Opelika-Auburn news section’s “Obama big winner in early NH towns’ votes” @ http://directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPageNR.jsp?assetId=P4960106&HBX_PK=content_ERROR_31152649012_0&HBX_OU=51

“The town of Hart’s Location reported 17 votes for Obama, 10 for McCain and two for write-in Ron Paul. Independent Ralph Nader was on both towns’ ballots but got no votes.”

Before daylight I read somewhere (but I can’t find it now) that another tiny NH village had posted the its results with Obama winning there also. But I was pleased to see that two independently-minded and liberty loving voters had written in the name of Ron Paul as I will do when I vote in mid-afternoon.

Is it significant that I was required to type in “alone18” to post my comment?  grin
