MONTGOMERY — Opelika’s wrestling team won its first dual match of the season, 66-12 over Catholic-Montgomery.

Winners for Opelika were Brian White (103), Cole McCarty (112), Austin Baker (119), Jacob Taylor (125), Jonathan Bright (130), D.J. Richardson (135), Hunter Robinson (140), Justin Norman (145), Wynn Knight (152), Tyler Sheridan (171), Montrel Daniel (189) and Caleb Lawrence (HW).

Opelika sweeps Wetumpka
Opelika’s basketball teams swept Wetumpka on Thursday at Bulldog Arena.

Opelika’s varsity boys won, 82-64, the girls took a 61-23 win and the JV boys won, 47-32.

On the varsity boys side, Tay Calloway had 15 points, Jamarius Blount had 14 and Terrence Milligan had 11 as the Bulldogs moved to 2-0 on the year.

The Opelika girls (3-2) were led by Ambriea Williams’ 19 points and 13 rebounds.

Jasmine Cannon added 14 points, eight rebounds, seven steals and three blocks while Alicia Beasley and Kieara Dexter had 7 points apiece.

On the JV side, Jamario Mitchell had 16 points, Dominique Barnes and Rentez thomas each had 8 and Romarlo Fitch had 6.

All three teams will hit the court again Tuesday in a meeting at Valley.

Beauregard gets past Notasulga
BEAUREGARD — The Beauregard basketball team evened its record at 1-1 with a 55-45 win over Notasulga on Thursday night.

Eric Dowell led the Hornets with 16 points on the night, and Demetrius Reese added 13.

Dewone Scott also had 7 points for Beauregard.

Fred McKenzie led the Blue Devils with 14 points, the only player from Notasulga to score in double figures.

Beauregard will play an early area game tonight when Tallassee comes to visit. The Hornet boys will tip off against the Tigers at 7 p.m.

Beauregard’s girls basketball team beat Notasulga, 60-51.

Valeeta Bellamy led the Hornets with a career-high 28 points and Ashley Billingsley chipped in 17 points.

Beauregard (3-1) plays an Area game today at home against Tallassee at 5:30 p.m..

Lee-Scott hoops sweep Lakeside
Both Lee-Scott’s girls and boys basketball teams moved to 2-0 on the year after beating Lakeside on Thursday.

LSA’s boys won, 89-33, while the girls took a 66-38 victory.

On the boys side, Micah Pointer had 13 points, Garrett Dyas, Alex Layson and Tucker Carl each had 12 and Williams Webster had 10.

Mellissa Maddox led LSA’s girls, tallying 28 points with 11 rebounds and six steals.

She was followed by Jessie Washington with 20 points and Olivia Maddox with 11.

Both LSA teams travel to the Evangel Tournament, which starts Monday.

Smiths Station wrestling wins
Smiths Station’s wrestling team captured a pair of wins in a tri-meet with Central and Russell County.

The Panthers beat Central, 59-24 and Russell County, 60-21.

Against Central, Dawson Miller (103), Anthony Green (112), Ryan Turner (119), Andrew Wilkins (130), Tim Hester (135), Gary Robinson (145), Ethan Chancellor (152), Coby Miller (189), Josh Odum (215) and Kimone Bates (285) won for Smiths Station.

Quincy Lewis (125), Trent Miles (140), Andrew Matthews (160) and Luke Wilson (171) got wins for Central.

Against Russell County, Miller, Green, Turner, Trevor Slappy (125), Wilkins, Marcus Bilbrew (140), Robinson, Chancellor, Odum and Bates had wins for Smiths Station.

Auburn 9th-grade girls beat Russell Co.
Auburn’s 9th-grade girls basketball team picked up a 37-36 victory Thursday over Russell County.

Ashley Harris led Auburn with 13 points while Jakieitha Carr had 12.
