DIXIE ROUNDUP: Opelika rolls to easy victory

MONTGOMERY — The Opelika Dixie Jr. Boys (13) opened up the District tournament with a resounding win over East Montgomery on Friday night at Crump Park.

Sawyer Stephens struck out seven and allowed just six hits as Opelika took a 14-4 win.

Garrett Brown was 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored, Nick Constan and Zack Wood each homered, Ryan Johnson had two hits and Stephens, Jordan Brown and Casey Senn had a hit apiece for Opelika.

Lane Hodges pitched the sixth inning to close things out.

With the win, Opelika will wait until Sunday at 7:30 p.m. to play again. They will meet the winner of today’s 2:30 p.m. tilt between Auburn and Phenix City.

Auburn Ponytails win Thursday
The Auburn Ponytails opened the District 5 tournament with a big win over host Opelika on Thursday night at West Ridge Park.

Lea Hix, Sara Jackson and Abby Spencer combined for 10 strikeouts as Auburn took a 17-0 win.

Hix and Jamiya Moore each had inside-the-park home runs, and Spencer, Jackson, Jade Young, Madison Rogers, Cheyenne Overton and Anna Claire White all had hits for Auburn.

Auburn will play again tonight at 7:30 p.m.
