If Texas A&M brass asked its fan base who the school’s next head football coach should be, Auburn’s Tommy Tuberville wins by a landslide. Check it out for yourself at this link.

Aggie fans want Tuberville. It remains to be seen if the university will pursue Tuberville, though I’d bet my car on it. Beyond that, it certainly remains to be seen if Tuberville wants to leave Auburn. Who knows?

Do stadiums have a limit for growth?

How big is too big? At what point is it impossible to increase the capacity of football stadiums without risking structural safety?

Jordan-Hare Stadium at Auburn has grown from 40-something thousand a long time ago to more than 70,000 in the 1970s to 85,214 in the 1980s to its current capacity of roughly 87,500, give or take a few. But how much larger can this stadium feasibly grow to? 110,000? 130,000? I would think at some point engineers would step in and say, “that’s it. No more.“ Only a few stadiums in America hold larger than 100,000, including Beaver Stadium at Penn State, Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor and the Rose Bowl.

And should Jordan-Hare Stadium reach its limit and can grow no more, what would that do? Over time, it would obviously increase the demand for tickets. I would think prices would skyrocket as the supply reaches its limit, but the demand continues to grow with our population. More people would turn to television to watch the games.

Just wondering.

Ever wondered if a high school sports programs grow out of control? Bear in mind that high school is meant for education first, extra-curricular programs second. These extra-curricular programs complement classroom education and can be very beneficial in helping a student develop skills, whether these skills are used on the football field, the band room or in the pottery-making club. It appears that one such athletics department, Hoover, may have outgrown itself.

Below is a link to a report, released on the popular Web site al.com, on alleged improprieties at the school involving athletes and coaches:

Johnny Mann, a senior at Auburn High School, visited with U.S. Congressman Mike Rogers recently on a visit to Washington, D.C., after being selected to participate in the National Youth Leadership Forum on National Security. Rogers, who represents Alabama’s Third Congressional District, is a big player in homeland security.

It’s good to see our youth get involved in important projects such as this.

Visits to doctor are educational

I learned something new this morning. I was informed that there are fewer nerve endings on the sides of our fingers near the fingernail, therefore we should feel less pain there if we get sliced there.

When you go to the doctor’s office, you should always come away with knowledge you didn’t have before. The nurse stuck the side of my finger with some device. Blood came out, but I think that’s what she wanted to happen. I didn’t even feel it, that’s when she explained the whole nerve-ending thing.

Anyway, the folks at the doctor’s office found something in my blood that wasn’t supposed to be there. I think it was bacteria or something, which have invaded my sinuses. I knew I should have doused myself with disinfectant! Oh well, this sinus infection is no worse than anyone else’s. But I’m gonna nuke those bacteria with Biaxin, an anti-biotic. Why are antibiotics called such? Shouldn’t they be called antibacterias?

Doctor’s visits are so educational. You get to learn your temperature and blood pressure too. All this for a low co-payment of $20. It’s a steal, and you feel better in the process.
