Is blowing the golf ball into the hole legal?
By Joe McAdory
A few thoughts upon returning home from a weekend in Daytona Beach, Fla.:
* Gas prices in much of south Georgia are higher than they are here. It used to be the other way around.
* It’s best to rent a car for $25 per day w/unlimited miles than drive my own. I put 900 miles on a Kia SUV while my car sat in the garage. For $100, that’s a pretty good deal.
* Greens fees for 18 holes of golf in Daytona are astoundingly low. Paid $22 and shot a 92, not counting about 15 mulligans. I blew the golf ball into the hole once. If the ground shook, it would have fallen in so I just helped it along. My club didn’t touch it, nor did my hands or feet. That’s legal, right?
* Saw plenty of Alabama and FSU fans along I-10 between Jacksonville and Lake City. Some were happy. Some were not.
* Ran into an Auburn student at Fazoli’s in Valdosta, Ga. Why don’t we have a Fazoli’s? We should.
* Played in the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame Golf Tournament Monday at Grand National with Mike Szvetitz, Wayne Snow and Jerry May. Our best-ball team shot a 1-under 71, which isn’t up to par in a best-ball format. At least we didn’t come in last. Some teams shot in the 50s. I wonder if they blew their golf balls into the holes. I’ll have to call the USGA and get a ruling on this.
