The Daily Mountain Eagle in Jasper interviewed Sen. Charles Bishop, a Republican who is from the Jasper area, about the infamous punch he threw at Sen. Lowell Barron (D-Fyffe). Of all the things accomplished, or not accomplished, during last year’s legislative session, the most memorable moment was Bishop’s jab. Below is a link to the Eagle’s story. Below that is a link to video of the incident.

Political switch an interesting story

Below is a link regarding state Sen. Jimmy Holley’s switch from the Democratic party to Republican. It’s interesting when a senator or representative switches from one party to the other. The link, on Doc’s Political Parlor, makes for interesting reading.

All bugs must die

Have I ever mentioned how much I hate bugs? I don’t care what purpose they serve in earth’s precious ecosystem, I hate them. I think they should all die horrible deaths. Call the PETA police, or People for the Ethical Treatment of Insects for all I care. I want them dead. Now.

Ants take up shelter in my Pontiac. By the thousands. What’s wrong, isn’t your nice little home in the ground good enough for you? You didn’t pay for the Pontiac. I did.

Yellow jackets roam free in my yard and attack unprovoked.

I refuse to go on picnics because, Lord knows, flies will just land on our sandwiches and spread whatever diseases they carry, probably dissentary or something like that, on our Wonder bread.

Mosquitoes love to suck our blood. Why? Is it that tasty or something. Maybe I’ll give a skeeter a tragic disease one day. How’s that for payback?

Then Monday, I can’t even eat a freakin frozen Healthy Choice lunch because a stupid gnat had to land right in the middle of the broccoli and alfredo sauce. I’m trying to eat healthy. Now I can’t eat at all. I hope that gnat drowns and suffers burns along the way. My lunch sits at the bottom of my trash can now.

OK. I feel better now.

Forecasts made far in advance not reliable

Remember when I blogged the other day about the possibility of snow in the area? Remember when I emphasized that forecasts a week in advance are not reliable? As it stands, snow is no longer in the forecast for later this week. At least not here. Folks along I-20 might see wintry precipitation of some sort. We might too, but it’s looking more like rain if anything. Regardless, it’s supposed to be cold.

High stakes golf at Grand National

Jennifer Foster evened the score Sunday in the second Newsroom Golf Showdown, beating me by two holes at Grand National’s short course. Jennifer, a former Opelika-Auburn News staffer, still writes a weekly political column which appears each Saturday.

The stakes are high—a dime a hole. The 20 cents she won Sunday can buy four pieces of bubble gum at a convenience store. Three months ago, I notched a win in our first showdown, taking her by a hole at Indian Pines.

But in defeat, I’m very pleased with Sunday’s round. I hit the ball better than I did the last time I played and made strides toward consistency.

Not sure where round three will be played. Jen wants a showdown at Moore’s Mill, her home course. A match at Auburn Links may be in order. To give this continued showdown more hype, I’m looking for corporate sponsorship and possibly network television coverage. For now, my game might be better shown on the Comedy Channel.
