Got this storm-related link from the Red Cross. Thought it might come in handy. You know, just in case. Personally, I believe Mr. Gustav may be bound for Louisiana. I ain’t gonna worry about it.

The gloves are coming off. After weeks of standing silently as Third District Congressional candidate Josh Segall’s campaign sent messages daily regarding Mike Rogers’ record in Washington, the Rogers campaign is striking back.
This is going to be a fun race to watch as Segall, a Democrat, tries to unseat the Republican incumbent. So far, the war is being waged over the Internet. Television ads are soon to follow. I’m glad I have satellite television so I get to miss the televised mudslinging.
Here’s what I received from the Segall camp today:
A recent university study compiled a list of the companies responsible for releasing the most toxic chemicals; ExxonMobil and ConocoPhillips, both contributors to Mike Rogers’s campaign, were among the top ten in the nation.
Not only has Rogers voted for billions in tax breaks for these companies, he’s voted to make it easier for them to build their toxic refineries in our communities, voting to grant authority for approving refinery building and expansion to a single bureaucracy [Vote 246, HR 4517, 6/16/04].
Josh supports increasing domestic drilling and building more refineries, but will fight to make sure they’re not allowed to poison our neighborhoods.
More will come tomorrow.
And here’s what I received from the Rogers camp today:
For months, Joshua Segall’s campaign for Congress has been trying to distort the common sense voting record of Third District Congressman Mike Rogers.
From Memorial Day fundraising to Big Oil giveaways, Joshua Segall simply isn’t running an honest campaign.
To help correct the record, the Mike Rogers for Congress campaign launched today a new fact checking blog - http://www.SayAnythingSegall.com - to refute Segall’s dishonest claims. Rogers Campaign Manager Tripp Skipper says the site will be updated as news of other dishonest claims surface.
“Joshua Segall will say anything to get elected,” said Skipper. “Shooting straight with voters is not something that Joshua Segall seems to know how to do and not surprisingly, voters aren’t buying it.”
“Third District voters know and trust Mike Rogers,“ he added, citing a recent Alabama Education Association poll showing Segall running 21 points behind Rogers.
Over a period of months, Skipper said the Rogers campaign has compiled an inventory of negative, misleading attacks from Joshua Segall on Mike Rogers’ record. The picture is clear from these attacks:
Joshua Segall can’t be trusted with the facts.
Joshua Segall is running a misleading, negative campaign.
Unfortunately, Skipper says, as the election draws closer we expect more of the same.
Who’s right? Who knows? It’s politics.

If you haven’t seen it already, be sure to check out Joe Turnham’s daily blog from the Democratic National Convention. Turnham, the Alabama Democratic Party Chair, is a long-time Auburn resident and gets the chance to serve as this area’s representative at the DNC.
It’s pretty neat to have our own correspondent in Denver who will give his insight on the happenings at the convention and share with us who he got a chance to speak with or see. His blog can be found at our Web site’s home page, http://www.oanow.com
And for the conspiracy theorists out there, just wanted to let you know we’ll have a localized blog from next week’s Republican National Convention when Auburn resident and state GOP chair Mike Hubbard spends the week in Minnesota.
We appreciate both of our representatives for taking the time to correspond not necessarily with the newspaper, but more importantly with the readers.

Opelika-Auburn News circulation district manager Jessica Sneed was in the Beauregard community Monday morning when a tornado warning was issued for the area—including Beauregard. Thinking quick, she saw this imposing black cloud and snapped a photo as it swirled north toward Opelika and Auburn.
Is this the cloud that triggered the tornado warning? Better yet, is this a funnel cloud? Regardless, it looks imposing.
