Last December I listed what I believed to be the All-Tuberville team. Considering the events of Wednesday, I’d like to run this list one more time:
Quarterback: Jason Campbell
Running backs: Carnell Williams, Ronnie Brown, Heath Evans
Receivers: Ben Obomanu, Courtney Taylor, Ronney Daniels
Tight end: Robert Johnson
Offensive line: Kendall Simmons, Ben Nowland, Marcus McNeill, Ben Grubbs, Tim Duckworth
Defensive line: Tommy Jackson, Quentin Groves, Stanley McClover, Jay Ratliff, Reggie Torbor
Linebackers: Dontarrious Thomas, Karlos Dansby, Travis Williams
Defensive backs: Carlos Rogers, Junior Rosegreen, Will Herring, Rodney Crayton
Punter: Kody Bliss
Kicker: John Vaughn
Today’s mood music: Flirtin’ With Disaster

With absolutely no experience dealing with contracts, much less multi-million dollar coaches’ contracts, here’s what I think Auburn University Athletics Director Jay Jacobs should do with head football coach Tommy Tuberville and the uncertainty that surrounds his tenure:
Since there are no available candidates worthy of this position at the moment, spare yourself the $6 million buyout, tell Tubs he will be retained as Auburn’s football coach—but force him to make major staff changes. Here’s the kicker—then GIVE HIM A ONE-YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION as a gesture of good will. This shows you are committed to him as coach in the future and gives a few recruits piece of mind. Besides, it’s good PR.
And, oh yeah, with that extension, the buyout clause is agreeably ripped by one-half. This gives Auburn a cheaper out for next season, if necessary, and Tuberville a one-year bonus should 2009 go as many hope.
Thought I’d throw this out there, but the 2009 schedule includes trips to Arkansas, LSU, Tennessee and Georgia. Difficult home games include Ball State (yes, they are unbeaten), West Virginia, Ole Miss and Alabama. If Tuberville survives that slate, he will hold leverage when negotiations are held again in the future.

Got a list of the new video games to be released in time for Christmas and one of them, for the Nintendo Wii, caught my attention.
Nothing says “Merry Christmas” to your child more than “Calvin Tucker’s Redneck Jamboree.“ I’m not kidding.
This game allows the player to compete in a number of knee-slappin’ events like toilet tossing, backyard hunting and mower racing. If you win, you’re invited into the “big trailer.“ Really.
Take your shoes off. Stay a while. Ya’ll come back now, ya hear?

I’m sure you’ve read this elsewhere, but here’s a prepared statement released by Auburn University in regards to the future of football coach Tommy Tuberville:
“President Gogue, Jay Jacobs and Coach Tuberville did meet Monday to have their annual end of the season meeting. Further conversations between Jay Jacobs and Coach Tuberville will take place in the following days to discuss Coach Tuberville’s plan to make improvements for the program moving forward under his leadership.“
If I read into this message correctly, I see that it is Auburn’s intention to retain Tuberville. Why?
The line that reads “... discuss Coach Tuberville’s plan to make improvements for the program moving forward under his leadership.“ Moving forward under his leadership implies the future with Tuberville.
Maybe I’m wrong. One way or the other, this whole issue needs to be resolved as quickly as possible.
