Back in the box

Greetings from Jordan-Hare Stadium, where Auburn hosts SEC foe Mississippi State this evening.

It doesn’t look like tonight’s game will be a sell-out, though the student section is packed. I wonder what the preferred choice of beverage is in the stadium tonight. Oh, that’s right. Alcohol is not permitted.

Tonight’s bill-of-fare in the press box is grilled chicken strips, baked beans, potato salad and banana pudding. Kirk Sampson’s a great chef.

Though I gave up full-time sports five years ago, I still enjoy coming out on occasion to chip in with a side story or anything else. Deep down, I’m a sports dude. Once a sports dude. Always a sports dude. I had my fair share of good times covering games in this press box.

Here are what I consider to be the five-best games I’ve seen from this box:

1. Auburn-Florida 2001
2. Auburn-Florida State 1990
3. Auburn-Syracuse 2002
4. Auburn-Georgia 2002
5. Auburn-Alabama 1997

That’s just off the top of my head. There may be something better.
