Pleasant Grove hosts Palm Sunday Concert
Whoever said that there is strength in numbers had it right.
Their ranks started out with less than 50 members, but this weekend, they will lift their nearly 140 collective voices in praise to God.
This Sunday, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church will host its 100 Women In White Palm Sunday Concert.
This weekend’s concert marks the 15th year the Palm Sunday event has been held at PGBC.
The choir that will be performing this weekend at PGBC represents several Opelika and Auburn area churches that have been rehearsing for months in preparation for the event.
“This concert is an opportunity for area churches to come together and show their love for God and worship through song,” said Suzzanne Pruitt, a member of PGBC who will also be singing in this weekend’s concert. “This is a heartfelt, spiritual time for the community to come together.”
Pruitt has participated in the 100 Women in White Palm Sunday event every year it has been held. In that time, the nearly 300-member church has moved into a new sanctuary where it now worships.
Each year’s concert is something the Opelika resident said she looks forward to.
“It’s amazing to see how things have grown each year and see both new and some familiar faces join the group,” Pruitt said. “And what’s really important about this event is that it’s not simply done for show. It’s done to uplift the name of the Lord.”
Deacon Paul Pollard, PGBC program coordinator, agrees with Pruitt.
“This concert is a wonderful time for fellowship with the community as the 100 Women In White sing praises to the Lord,” Pollard said.
