30-year-old man found guilty of burglary, attempted rape

A Lee County jury returned a guilty verdict Thursday afternoon, convicting Antonio Nixon, 30, of first-degree burglary and attempted rape.

Nixon’s conviction came in connection with an incident on July 3, 2008 at the Huntington Hills subdivision of Phenix City.

“Nixon knocked on the door of the victim’s residence asking for a particular individual,” said Lee County Assistant District Attorney Kisha Allen Abercrombie. “When the victim told Nixon the person he was asking for did not live there, he asked once more for the same person and as the victim began to try and shut the door of the residence, Nixon forced his way inside.”

Once inside the home, Nixon attacked and tried to rape the victim, Abercrombie said.

The victim sustained broken ribs and several lacerations to her face, with one injury to her forehead requiring 14 stitches, District Attorney Nick Abbett said.

At the time of the attack the victim, who managed to fight off her attacker, was at home alone with her 10-day-old child.

Nixon fled after the attack, but through information the victim provided the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, a description was quickly generated and an arrest made less than a week later, Abbett said.

“I think the women of Lee County are a little bit safer after today’s verdict,” Abbett said.

Chief Trial Assistant District Attorney Robert T. Treese agreed.

“The victim demonstrated extraordinary courage in taking the stand in this case,” Treese said.

Nixon will be sentenced at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Lee County Justice Center.

Southbound: How do you know? Were you there? She picked the first person police showed her?  How do they have his picture? how did his name come up? did they find one of his old high school annuals, close their eyes and point to a picture and decide to blame it all on him?  Come on, get real! As far as his motive, who knows…  The thrill of it.  That is something only he can answer.  But not all crimes are committed for money.  Ever heard of a thrill kill?

BlkDate: The “race card” is no longer valid.  The fact that a black man is sitting in the White House means that the “race card” has expired!  Also, quit watching CSI. There is not always the luxury of DNA evidence under the finger nails, simply because some people don’t have fingernails long enough, or the victim punches and doesn’t scratch.  I am certain the police asked for distinguishing features.  That is probably one reason they were led to Nixon.

If you have no exculpatory evidence (evidence that proves he is innocent), then get used to the fact that your boy will be sitting in prison for a while.  The system has worked and a criminal is off streets.  Thank you Lee County SO and the jury of HIS peers!

Nixon and I went to school together since the fourth grade. We played football together and worked together. This is implausible. This cat always carried himself in a respectful manner. This is either a case of mistaken identity or profiling. You know how they say we all look alike. This guy has never wanted for Anything. He had a wholesome upbringing. If he did all that why didn’t she have any DNA under her nails?  Also he has light brown eyes did they ask the victim did she notice any distinguishing features?

This was an injustice, i’m sorry about what happened to the lady, but i know and she knows that nixon did not commit this crime.  I know that this is simply a case of mistaken identity.  Everybody has somebody out there that resembles them.  This is a hard workin U.S. Veteran that I have personally had the honor of serving with. I believe that this lady picked the first person that the police showed her.  This man has no prior offenses at all, and he wants for nothing.  So it doesn’t make any sense that he would be trying to rob anyone.

Real_Friend, sorry to burst your bubble but married men with children commit rape too.  Granted, the majority are single, there is still something like 20% that are married.  A lot of rapists are able to carry on the perception that they are harmless.  These are what you call sociopaths.  Now, as far as blaming the victim for lying, 95% of victims tell the truth!  There are only 5% that lie, and that is retributive.  Meaning, if daddy doesn’t give daughter $50 for the mall, she will say he touched her.  VERY VERY rarely do they every lie about a stranger.
That being said, he was judged by a jury of his peers and found guilty.  I trust that they made the right decision.  I wish we could see the evidence that was presented.  If anyone knows, please share.  Until then, I say cook ‘em!

This is really wrong Nixon is a hard working person was doing really well for himself and someone is trying to take it all away from him. He did nothing in that nature this women is really wrong for putting him in jail and she knows it wasn’t him he has a wife and kids that he loves wouldn’t harm a fly. I wish she did have a gun even if this really happen to her but the real person who did it would be shot and my friend would not be in jail for nothing some please do something this isn’t right at all

Nah, no life in prison.  I don’t want this scum living off my tax dollars.  I would rather my tax dollars going to paying a spiked power bill. Cheaper and 100% effective when it comes to recidivism!

You deserve LIFE IN PRISON!!  Why go and harm innocent people?  You never need to be put back on the streets again or you will become a repeat offender….
