Blasting temporarily closes Highway 280 in Opelika

The intersection at Veterans Parkway and U.S. Highway 280 in Opelika was briefly closed just after noon as blasting took place along about a 30-foot section of the roadway.

Orica USA Inc., is handling the blasting of the section of granite along the roadway that is being cleared to install a waterline.

All lanes of traffic were blocked by Opelika police and fire departments for about three minutes according to Opelika Fire Department Chief Byron Prather.

Blasting will resume again this afternoon around 3 p.m.
