City collecting donations for reward fund

The City of Auburn is accepting donations for a reward fund. This is the release published on the city’s Web site (http://www.auburnalabama.org):

City Accepting Donations to Reward Fund

“Auburn, Ala. - The City of Auburn maintains a Reward Fund to which citizens and businesses may contribute, for general use or specific cases. The purpose of the Reward Fund is to encourage people to provide information that may be helpful in determining what happened to victims such as Lauren Burk, the Auburn University freshman who lost her life Tuesday.

“Individuals or businesses wishing to make a donation to the City’s Reward Fund may do so by making a check payable to the City of Auburn and noting on the front of the check “Reward Fund.” Donors who wish to restrict their contributions to the reward for a specific case, such as Lauren’s, should note “Reward Fund-Lauren Burk Case” on the front of the check. In addition to check contributions, the City of Auburn is offering several ways to donate:

“Online: Donations made by debit card or credit card will be accepted online at http://www.auburnalabama.org/reward. To donate, click on the “Donate to Reward Fund” link and log in using customer number 86366 and PIN number 1111.

“By Phone: To make a donation by debit card or credit card over the phone, please call Auburn City Hall at (334) 501-7260.

“By Mail: To make a donation by mail, please send a check payable to “Reward Fund” or “Reward Fund-Lauren Burk Case” to:

“In-Person: Donations made by cash, check, debit card, or credit card will be accepted at the following City offices:

“Donations made to a specific case that is not solved within five years will be made available for rewards offered in other cases. The Internal Revenue Code, Section 170, defines charitable contributions to include gifts to city governments.

“In addition to the City of Auburn’s Reward Fund, Governor Bob Riley’s office has issued a $10,000 reward for any information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for Lauren’s death.“
